As a follower of local football since 1984 (Grantham Town) I’ve seen a lot of non-league football and how it can bring people together and do a lot of good for the Community. I’ve also played local league football myself (not to a great standard!!)
Ian asked me to help establish the South Kesteven Charity Cup in 2019 with the aim of raising funds for local charities. I was pleased to take that on board and ring my knowledge of local and non-league football to help put on a competition teams and fans want that helps the local community.
As a life long football fan and also as a district councillor for over 28 years I can see the many benefits that a successful football tournament can bring to our community. Football is our national sport, and the grass roots lies in the lower leagues in our community.
Many of our local teams were established in the 19th century and our forefathers left a legacy that generations have enjoyed. If we want that to continue, then we just need to make a little effort for the love of our sport and our local community. I hope that our tournament will help to keep that legacy going for many years to come.
I have always been a lifelong follower of football in general and I served on several charitable organizations whilst abroad in Malta. I moved to Grantham in 2014 and was very pleased to be asked by Ian to join the South Kesteven Charity Cup Committee just as we went into lockdown. After two and half years in isolation it was great to be back in the thick of things as the Secretary of the Cup Committee.
I am a great believer in giving back to our local community and this is a great opportunity to promote our local football teams, some of which have been established for many years.
As a big fan of football and knowing the power of the game to bring the community together, I am proud to be involved in the South Kesteven Charity Cup.
Helping raise money for local worthy causes and putting on a showpiece competition is a lot of hard work but very rewarding. I feel lucky to be involved.
I hope to support this competition for many years and see it grow into a major calendar event bringing together our sporting teams from across the district.
As I am a great fan of the mighty Arsenal, football has been a big part of my life. Growing up there was nothing more I enjoyed on Saturday or Sunday out playing football from morning till the big lights came on. Football is great part of any community. It brings everyone together through the good and bad times.
This is why I'm so happy to be part of the South Kesteven Charity Cup as it brings all communities together from all areas of the district.
